Essex Herb Group - Magical Healing Herbs Saturday November 2nd 2013
On this special day when we remember our departed ancestors, we are also reminded of our links with the past traditions. In using herbs for our heatlh, food and healing rituals we are continuing and keeping some of these traditions alive. We will talk about some mysterious and magical herbs, and make something a ‘tad magical’ to take away. Small additional charge for the materials might apply.

Homemade Wine Talks: 20th & 27th June 2013
On 20 and 27th June, from 6.00 til 8.00 pm, I'll be giving beginner/improver level informal talks on making your own wines. Location is the Ideas Hub 2 (High Chelmer, opposite Greggs). Cost is £10 for non-members and £8 for members. Homebrewing is a great way to reduce your carbon print, good fun, easy, cheap and makes a good quality product. It doesn't need lots of space and needn't take ages. I'll happily bust any myths that say otherwise because there will also be some of my homemade wines to sample!
Community Energy EEBE Workshop: 9th April 2013
This event was kindly organised by Daniel K., presented by Nicola Terry (author of 'Energy and carbon emissions: the way we live today' http://nicola.qeng-ho.org/) and was well attended.
Topics covered included ways to improve efficiency of old buildings, Green Deal, finance & incentives, 'Feed-in' tarrifs, Renewable Heat, pros & cons of available grants & loans, and community schemes already running. See/contact Dan K, Manoah, Stuart C or Gary P for further info and list or resources.

Ideas Festival 2012: 13th - 20th October 2012
The Ideas festival will kick off properly from 13th October, for a week. But already the hub is open and keen for you to get involved or simply drop in, say hi and have a look around. If you'd like to host something at the hub and are wondering if it'll fit then think ... community spiritedness, sharing, learning, teaching, fun, culture, sustainability etc ... if any of those words fit then you'll probably fit he bill.
you can download a brochure/program for the festival here, clicky. i recommend it. it's very good.
And did i tell you that a transitioner, our very own Leonie, is the festival co-ordinator/organiser (dare i say it director!)? oh and that a few other Chelmsford transitioners are hosting events or presentations?
cya at the hub, or elsewhere? What IF Chelmsford ....

Black History Month talks: 15th October 2012
October is Black History month, and as part of that the Ideas Festival is hosting 2 talks that i'll be delivering. I'll be doing a presentation on little known characters from history who happen to be black people. As you'll learn the reason you don't know them is because their stories have been hidden, and there are some great stories and great characters. Inventors, Rulers, Military Genuises, Medics and so very many more, right through the ages.
Both will be pretty much the same content and hopefully you'll find timing works well for one of them for you.
Monday 15th October, 3.00 - 4.30 pm. Ideas Festival Hub (next to JJB sports, overlooking Central Park, opposite Lek Thai al fresco restaurant at the markets). The talk itself will last about an hour and there will be Q&A afterwards.
Thursday 18th October, 12.00 - 1.00 pm. Anglia Ruskin University.

Dedham Vale Food Hub
"The Dedham Vale Food Hub is a group of farmers and consumers who, together, have created a vision for the future of local, low carbon food. The Hub aims to provide food to local communities in order to meet the needs of tomorrow’s consumers today through offering local, seasonal healthy low carbon food; all of which is sourced in and around the Dedham Vale. By switching to local, organic low carbon food, you and your family could save up to 75% of your yearly carbon budget for food! The Hub will operate to begin with as an online website delivering fruit, vegetable, bread, meat and dairy to your door on a weekly basis. With the availability of visits to the farms in order for you and your family to see how and where your food has been produced.
In order to ensure that your food is as fresh as possible, our distribution spokes will deliver and sell into Ipswich, Sudbury, Manningtree, Colchester and Clacton. The boxes that you will be provided with will reflect the passing seasons from each farm to provide you with the best Mother Nature has to offer all year round! The Hub itself will aim to offer a fun, ethical and price sensitive shop and the opportunity to feed your families andfriends in a cafe by Summer 2013.
If you would like to receive updates and be the first to know when our online store launches (Late Summer/Early Autumn 2012), please send your details (name and e-mail address) to the e-mail address below and we will keep you informed with all the latest at the Hub;
